Provinces of Iran Kerman

 

The province of Kerman located in southeast of Iran, is one of the largest provinces of the country.

Kerman province was known as Botia in the Achaemenid period and most of historical monuments date back to the Sassanid period show Kerman province. The Lut desert lies in the north of province and has a great impact on the climate so the weather is hot in summer and mild in winter.

Mt. Jupar with a height of 4100 m is the highest mountain in Kerman province and areas nearby attracts many visitors because of its wild life.

The most important protected environmental sites in this province are Khabar and Arzoeieh in the district. In this area, can find different kinds of birds such as partridge, hawk, falcon, wild pigeon and various kinds of wild animals like tiger, panther, wolf, fox, black bear, raynard, hyena, and also different kinds of snakes.

The city of Kerman, the provincial capital is located on the margine of Kavir-e Lut. It is counted as one of the oldest cities in Iran; its construction is attributed to Ardeshir-e Babakan in 3rd century A.D.

Mahan in southeast of Kreman is probably founded in the Sassanid period.

The mausoleum of Shah Ne`matollah-e vali, which its construction goes back to the 1437 A.D is situated in this city and is the cause of Mahan`s development and fame.

Arg-e Bam is counted as one of the important military and historical castles located about 200 kms, southeast of Kerman.

This castle covers an area of 6 Sq. kms, and is the greatest mud-brick construction in the world. It goes back to 2000 years ago. This complex is one of the most important tourist attractions in Iran.
