The province of Lorestan is a beautiful highland covered with huge mountains and green slopes, which is located in the western part of the country.

This province is one of the interesting and eye-catching regions of Iran from the environmental and natural point of view. The slopes of the mountain area are covered with thick forests the mountains are rich wildlife and attract many people.

The highest and the most famous peak in Lorestan province is Oshtorankooh. The wildlife in this area is of high significance to biologists.

The population is of various ethnic groups with their own special cultures and traditions. The ethnic groups are such as Kurd, Lors, Turks, and Arabs, which the vast majority of them are Muslims.

The city of Khoram Abad, the provincial capital, enjoys many natural and historical monuments belonging to the Sassanid period.

Lorestan, is an agricultural region with numerous villages and settlements.

It is also endowed with large pasturelands that support sheep and cattle breeding by the local nomadic tribes.

The snow-clad heights, beautiful rivers and lakes, waterfalls, luxuriant plains, and spas are amongst tourism attractions of this province.

There are pleasant mountains in the Boroujerd Township, which have cold mountainous weather.

The Gahar Lake with the height of 2300m above the sea level is one of the most beautiful lakes in the country which is located in the protected wild life zone on the Oshtorankooh Mountain, and attracts a large number of visitors each year.
